Hi Lukasi,
cool! I am looking forward to the cs-CZ translation. Anyway, we can continue the discussion here so, other translators can use it as a source of information for solving possible problems during translation...

Yeah, sure. So let me ask again - can I somehow download test version of the extension with the locale I'm translating it to?

Hello Jan.

Thank you very much for developing this useful extension. I have just met it and I feel it is what I was waiting for a long time. happy.gif

I'm willing to translate it into Spanish (es-ES), and I hope I can be helpful. Is there any detail I must take into consideration before starting?

I'd like to make a pair of suggestions:

In first place, I see that there are labels whose size is fixed, independently of the text they're containing. For example, the label "Remove for Site", in Spanish would be "Eliminar para este sitio", but when I'm testing the locale, it's shown as "Eliminar para este si...". I don't think this is the correct behaviour: the complete message should be shown.

In second place, there are the tooltips. I think they're very useful in many cases, when they extend the text shown in labels, buttons, etc. But in the case of the columns headers, they show the same minimal text than the button. I think they would be more useful if they show texts as:

Name --> Name of the cookie
Value --> Value stored for the cookie
Domain --> Domain that has stored the cookie
Size --> Size of the stored cookie
Expires --> Expiration date for the cookie
Security --> Shows whether it is a secure cookie or not
Status --> Status of the cookie (downgraded, flagged...)

Greetings!

Hi,
I like your suggestions, all make sense. I have created a new issue for this, so it's not lost. See,
http://code.google.com/p/firecookie/issues/detail?id=8

Anyway, I'll leave a note here as soon as it's fixed.

Thanks!

Thanks for having my opinion in consideration. It's always funny to contribute!

I'd like to comment another three points:

First one, which maybe is more related to programming instead of translation or localization: when the column "Expires" shows a date, it's formatted in English format instead of in local format. For example, I see "Wed, 01 Jan 2020 00:00:00 GMT" where I think I should see "Mié, 01 Ene 2020 00:00:00 GMT" (in Spanish: Wednesday --> Miércoles; January --> Enero). Furthermore, when I create a new cookie and I establish the expiration date, it doesn't recognize the local format. I mean, in Spanish, dates are almost always formatted as dd/mm/yyyy, but if I set the expiration date to 13/08/2008 (what I thought it should be August 13th), it sets the cookie expiration to "Wed 07 Jan 2009 23:00:00 GMT". If this can't be fixed, at least it could warn me saying that I'm entering an invalid month (13).

Second one: when creating a new cookie, the default value is "value", untranslated. If I ain't wrong, that word is translated in another 4 places, but this one seems to have been forgotten.

Third one: can't the overall text for the extension "Cookie manager for Firebug. Firebug has to be installed in order to use this extension" be translated? This is the first contact between the user and the extension, and a foreign language could be a reason to not install it for users who haven't got a good English level.

Thanks.

Hi,

@ First one: There is already an issue in the list, which is related to the time-format. Agree, the local time format should be always used. I appended your comment into the issue, see: http://code.google.com/p/firecookie/issues/detail?id=6

@ Second one + Third one: I have created a new issue, see: http://code.google.com/p/firecookie/issues/detail?id=11

Thanks for the tips!

Hi Honza,
Polish locale released. I haven't any suggestions, but have some problems solutions smile.gif
  • added extension description (mentioned by Johnbo)
  • added 'requires' attribute to install.rdf
  • rebuilt 'edit.xul' file
  • removed redundant strings from 'firecookie.properties' file

You can check these changes installing my extension version.

Hi Teo,

I have merged all your changes and committed into the trunk.
http://code.google.com/p/firecookie/source/detail?r=6

The Polish localization is also committed.
http://code.google.com/p/firecookie/source/detail?r=7

I have also appended you (Leszek(teo)Życzkowski) in the install.rdf as a translator.
http://code.google.com/p/firecookie/source...unk/install.rdf
Is the name correct? Or would you like to change it?

Thanks for all the help!

Honza

Only as translator? I thought that you add me also as contributor. smile.gif Thanks, all is OK. I think will be good if you add to translator name his localization e.g. Leszek(teo)Życzkowski (pl-PL) or (Polish).

Hi,
first of all, thanks to all for localizing Firecookie!

All translators are appended within Firecookie's About dialog. See the source here:
http://code.google.com/p/firecookie/source...unk/install.rdf

Please let me know (odvarko at gmail dot com) if there would be any typos in your name,
I'll fix it promptly.

I have also released fresh new version (Firecookie 0.7beta4.bz, uploaded here). There is 11 new strings.

And the following strings have been changed to:

firecookie.header.name.tooltip=Name of the cookie
firecookie.header.value.tooltip=Value stored for the cookie
firecookie.header.domain.tooltip=Domain that has stored the cookie
firecookie.header.size.tooltip=Size of the stored cookie
firecookie.header.path.tooltip=Directory where the cookie is active
firecookie.header.expires.tooltip=Expiration date for the cookie
firecookie.header.security.tooltip=Shows whether it is a secure cookie or not
firecookie.header.status.tooltip=Status of the cookie (downgraded, flagged...)
firecookie.header.httponly.tooltip=Shows if the cookie is an HTTP only cookie

Hi,

I translated to Japanese.

The term "downgraded" and "flagged" as cookie status label couldn't
be translated because I don't have good idea for these words.
Japanese FireFox uses the word "Cookie" as is as (not displayed
in Kanji). So I thought that these words should be spelled in English.

Also I thought that someone may want to search by "cookie status flag
downgrad firefox". They will find web pages which describes what flag
is raised or what grade is gone down.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Network.cookie.p3p
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/nsICookie

Also words "rejected" and "accepted" shown in the same situation are
not displayed in Japanese.
